Policy Officer - Economic and Trade Affairs (Local Agent Group I)

About the role

The EU Delegation to the Pacific in Suva is seeking a Policy Officer (Group I) to support the implementation and monitoring of EU trade policy across the Pacific Island Countries, Papua New Guinea and the French Overseas Territories. The role is based in Suva and reports to the Head of Delegation, the Directorate‑General for Trade and Economic Security, and the Head of Regional Partnerships.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor negotiations, implementation and impact of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between the EU and Pacific states, including Fiji, PNG, Samoa and Solomon Islands.
• Track developments in national and regional trade policies, trade flows, fiscal and tax measures, financial services and land ownership regimes.
• Provide analysis and briefing material to senior officials and support the preparation of reports for EU headquarters.
• Coordinate with EU member state embassies, local authorities and other stakeholders to ensure coherent policy implementation.
• Adapt to evolving tasks as required by the Delegation, including occasional atypical working hours for virtual meetings with Europe.

Required profile

• Willingness to work occasional evening or early‑morning hours to accommodate online meetings with European partners.
• Ability to follow instructions from the Head of Delegation, the DG Trade and the Head of Regional Partnerships.
• Flexibility to take on varied functions as needs of the Delegation evolve.
