Special & Inclusive Education Technical Officer – Fiji

About the role

The Special & Inclusive Education (SIE) Technical Officer will support the Australia Fiji Education Program (AFEP) and Fiji’s Ministry of Education in developing and institutionalising inclusive education best practices. The role focuses on rolling out Individual Education Plans (IEP) and building capacity of mainstream teachers to deliver quality education for children with disabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical advice and guidance to MoE and AFEP SIE staff on special and inclusive education policies and practices.
• Support the development, implementation and monitoring of IEP guidelines and related pedagogical resources.
• Strengthen monitoring and evaluation of disability inclusion, including the disability disaggregation module in FEMIS.
• Collaborate with GEDSI, MEL and other technical advisers to ensure coherent inclusive approaches across the program.
• Ensure all activities comply with child protection and safeguarding standards.

Required profile

• Minimum bachelor’s degree in education with a specialisation in special and inclusive education.
• At least five years of progressive experience in special education teaching, curriculum development, or inclusive education practice.
• Demonstrated experience in implementation, monitoring and evaluation of disability‑inclusive programs and policies.
• Experience delivering technical and pedagogical input to government or NGOs in the education sector.
