Independent Numeracy Curriculum Specialist (Remote, Fiji)

About the role

The Fiji Program Support Platform is seeking an Independent Numeracy Curriculum Specialist to conduct an evidence‑informed review of Fiji’s primary numeracy curriculum (Years 1‑4). This short‑term consultancy (approximately 40 working days) will be home‑based with occasional travel to Suva to collaborate with the Ministry of Education and selected technical partners.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and apply a transparent, evidence‑informed curriculum review framework, building on recognised models, to assess the coherence, developmental appropriateness and cultural relevance of the current numeracy syllabus, teacher guides and assessment tools.
• Analyse curriculum components such as number sense, operations, mental maths, reasoning, measurement, geometry, patterns and data, considering contextual factors like class size, language of instruction, teacher capacity and resource availability.
• Synthesize existing data sources (e.g., PILNA, national assessment results, classroom observations, teacher competency evidence) to inform recommendations that are feasible for Fiji’s multilingual and resource‑constrained environment.
• Provide evidence‑based guidance on strengthening the curriculum, improving assessment practices, and promoting equitable numeracy outcomes for all learners, including multilingual, remote and disability‑inclusive contexts.
