Policy Officer – Economic & Trade Affairs (Group I)

About the role

The European Union Delegation to the Pacific in Suva seeks a Policy Officer (Group I) to support the management of EU trade policy across the Pacific Island Countries, Papua New Guinea and the French Overseas Territories. The role reports to the Head of Delegation and works closely with the Directorate‑General for Trade and Economic Security.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and analyse the implementation of the EU‑Pacific Economic Partnership Agreement and related trade instruments, tracking policy developments, trade flows, fiscal and tax measures, investment, IP rights and competition issues.
• Prepare and deliver external communications, including briefings, speeches, press releases, social‑media posts and reports on trade trends, and maintain contacts with stakeholders, public authorities and business communities.
• Represent the EU in meetings with the Pacific Island Forum, national ministries, EU Member State trade counsellors and international organisations, contributing to negotiations, donor cooperation and the promotion of EU trade tools.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in economics, international relations, political science or a related field.
• At least three years of relevant experience in the public or private sector.
• Fluent English (C1) and working knowledge of French (B1).
• Legal right to reside and work in Fiji, medically fit and able to provide a clean police clearance.
