Special & Inclusive Education Technical Officer – Australia Fiji Education Program

About the role

The Special & Inclusive Education (SIE) Technical Officer will provide expertise, advice and guidance to the Australia Fiji Education Program (AFEP) and Fiji’s Ministry of Education (MoE) to develop and institutionalise inclusive education best practice. The role focuses on rolling‑out Individual Education Plans (IEP) and building capacity of mainstream teachers to deliver quality education for children with disabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical advice and guidance to MoE and AFEP SIE staff on special and inclusive education.
• Support monitoring and evaluation of the programme’s disability‑inclusion efforts, including strengthening the disability disaggregation module within FEMIS.
• Guide the implementation and monitoring of Individual Education Plans (IEP) and embed pedagogical inputs into daily classroom practice.
• Collaborate with GEDSI, MEL and other technical advisers to ensure coherence and quality of inclusive approaches across the programme.
• Ensure all technical advice and activities adhere to child protection and safeguarding standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in education with a specialisation in special and inclusive education.
• Minimum five years of progressive experience in special education teaching, curriculum development or inclusive education practice.
• Experience in implementation, monitoring and evaluation of disability‑inclusive development programmes and policies.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Individual Education Plans (IEP) implementation.
• Fiji Education Management Information System (FEMIS) disability disaggregation module.
