Secondary Mathematics Teaching & Learning Officer

About the role

The Fiji Program Support Platform (FPSP), a DFAT investment, is recruiting a Secondary Mathematics Teaching & Learning Officer (TLO) for the Australia Fiji Education Program (AFEP). The TLO works with the Curriculum Advisory Unit (CAS) of the Ministry of Education to roll out the Revised Secondary Mathematics Curriculum (RSMC) across Focus schools in each of the nine education districts. The position is a locally engaged employee on an 18-month contract with possible extension, based in a District Education Office and reporting to the Senior Education Advisor and the AFEP Maths Coordinator.

Key responsibilities

• Coach and mentor school staff and students so they can use the RSMC and related teaching and learning approaches
• Work with the CAS Secondary Mathematics Team to develop and model practical units and lessons based on the RSMC's teaching strategies
• Help school staff create teaching and learning resources that fit the local context and connect to real life
• Provide professional development and support school staff to run it, and help them support other schools in their clusters
• Collect and evaluate data, including applying PM Benchmark assessments and Mathematics Diagnostic tests in pre- and post-assessments (training provided)
• Support staff in planning and delivering differentiated teaching for at-risk students, students with disabilities and gifted students
• Model lessons, team teach and plan with Focus School staff, and take part in revising the secondary mathematics curriculum
• Monitor and report to the SEA and District Education Advisors on the delivery of secondary mathematics

Required profile

• Commitment to acting as a change agent within Fiji's education sector
• Ability to work closely with school staff, students and district education officers, mostly directly or online with schools
