Policy Officer – Economic and Trade Affairs (Group I)

About the role

The European Union Delegation to the Pacific in Suva seeks a Policy Officer (Group I) to support the management of EU trade policy across the Pacific Island Countries, Papua New Guinea and the French Overseas Territories. The role reports to the Head of Delegation and works closely with the Directorate‑General for Trade and Economic Security.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and analyse the implementation of the EU‑Pacific Economic Partnership Agreement and related trade instruments in Fiji and other EPA states.
• Track policy developments in trade, fiscal matters, investment, intellectual property and competition across the region.
• Provide regular reports and briefings to EU Headquarters on trade issues and respond to specific information requests.
• Prepare press releases, speeches, social‑media posts and organise outreach events such as business forums and workshops.
• Liaise with Pacific Island Forum, national ministries, EU Member State trade counsellors and international organisations on trade negotiations and regional integration.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in economics, international relations, political science or a related field.
• Minimum three years of relevant experience in the public or private sector.
• Working knowledge of English (C1) and French (B1).
• Right to reside and work in Fiji, medically fit and able to provide a clean police clearance.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and organisational abilities.

Required skills

• Knowledge of statistical methods and ability to work with economic data.
• Experience with EU trade instruments, trade treaties and diplomatic protocol.
