Independent Numeracy Curriculum Specialist (Remote, 40 days)

About the role

The Independent Numeracy Curriculum Specialist will support the Australia Fiji Education Program (AFEP) by providing expert guidance on the design, implementation and evaluation of numeracy curricula for primary and secondary schools in Fiji. This is a short‑term, 40‑day contract based remotely with occasional travel to Suva for stakeholder meetings.

Key responsibilities

• Review and adapt existing numeracy curriculum materials to align with AFEP objectives and Fiji Ministry of Education policies.
• Develop evidence‑based recommendations for curriculum improvement, assessment tools and teacher professional development.
• Collaborate with local education officials, school leaders and project partners to ensure gender equality, disability inclusion and climate‑resilient learning environments.
• Provide technical support for the Fiji Education Management Information System (FEMIS) related to numeracy data collection and reporting.
• Prepare concise briefing notes and reports for DFAT and program stakeholders.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Education, Curriculum Studies or a related field.
• Proven experience in numeracy curriculum design and implementation in primary/secondary contexts.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, remotely and travel to Fiji as required.
• Strong analytical and written communication skills for producing policy‑oriented reports.
