Technical Operator (Fixed-Term) – Fiji

About the role

British American Tobacco is seeking a Technical Operator on a fixed‑term basis to work at its Fiji production site. The role focuses on operating and maintaining key manufacturing equipment while supporting safety, quality and productivity targets.

Key responsibilities

• Operate assigned production equipment and manage workflow to meet daily production targets.
• Perform routine, weekly and major maintenance, troubleshoot breakdowns and eliminate root causes.
• Execute equipment changeovers according to Standard Work Practices and target times.
• Apply Integrated Work Systems (IWS) and Daily Management Systems (DMS) tools to identify losses, develop improvement plans and reduce downtime.
• Participate in daily and weekly DDS meetings to review top losses, process failures and safety incidents.
• Ensure compliance with QA, EHS and manufacturing standards while supporting the Master Production Schedule.
• Develop one‑point lessons and coach peers on equipment operation, maintenance and best practices.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams on continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Trade Certificate in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• 3–5 years of experience operating and maintaining production equipment, preferably in tobacco or similar manufacturing.
• Strong analytical ability with Microsoft Excel.
• Good communication skills and the ability to lead and work within a team.
