About the role
EquiLaw is looking for a Junior Solicitor to join its Suva office on a full‑time, on‑site basis. The successful candidate will be a qualified solicitor admitted to practice in Fiji with a current Practising Certificate, working under senior practitioners while handling substantive legal work.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and analyse legislation, case law and other authorities.
- Draft and review correspondence, contracts, agreements, pleadings, affidavits, applications and legal opinions.
- Assist with commercial, corporate, conveyancing, litigation and other matters undertaken by the firm.
- Prepare documents for filing and support matters before courts, tribunals and registries.
- Take client instructions, attend conferences and meetings, and, where appropriate, act independently.
- Support negotiations, mediations, hearings and other proceedings.
- Review documents and identify relevant legal, contractual and commercial issues.
- Prepare matter updates, chronologies, reports and other documentation.
- Maintain proper client files, records and confidentiality in line with professional obligations.
- Collaborate with practitioners and support staff to progress matters efficiently and to a high professional standard.
Required profile
- LLB or equivalent recognised law qualification.
- Admission to practice as a legal practitioner in Fiji with a valid Practising Certificate.
- Strong knowledge of legal research, statutory interpretation and case law.
- Excellent drafting abilities and clear written communication.
- Good organisational, time‑management and client‑confidentiality skills.
- Demonstrated professional judgment and attention to detail.
- Ability to take instructions and progress matters with appropriate supervision.
- Strong oral communication and ability to deal professionally with clients, counsel and government authorities.
- Willingness to develop further experience and responsibility in private practice.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort with electronic legal files and research resources.
