Technician – Fixed‑Term (1‑year) – Production Equipment

About the role

British American Tobacco Solomon Islands is seeking a Technician on a 1‑year fixed‑term contract in Fiji. The role focuses on operating and maintaining production equipment to meet safety, quality and productivity targets while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Operate assigned equipment and manage workflow to meet production requirements.
• Perform daily, weekly and major maintenance activities, troubleshoot equipment, and drive root‑cause actions.
• Execute planned equipment changeovers and maintenance in line with Standard Work Practices.
• Apply Integrated Work Systems (IWS) and Daily Management Systems (DMS) tools to reduce downtime and improve reliability.
• Participate in Shift DDS and weekly DDS meetings to review losses, incidents and prioritize corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with QA, EH&S and operational standards while aligning with the Master Production Schedule.
• Develop One Point Lessons and coach operators on equipment operation and maintenance best practices.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to coordinate maintenance priorities and support loss‑elimination projects.

Required profile

• Trade Certificate in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• 3–5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint for data analysis and documentation.
• Strong problem‑solving skills using methods such as 5 Whys and 6W2H.
• Knowledge of 5S, EH&S and Good Manufacturing Practices.
• Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
