Divisional Disaster Risk Management Coordination Associate

About the role

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Fiji is recruiting a Divisional Disaster Risk Management Associate (DDRMA) to lead the Divisional Disaster Risk Management Office. The office coordinates disaster risk management, early warning and preparedness across Fiji's four administrative divisions, in support of the National Disaster Management Act 2024. The role works under the technical direction of the Divisional Commissioners and Manager Emergency Planning Coordination, and the administrative supervision of the Divisional Commissioner.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the implementation of national disaster risk management policies, plans and the National Disaster Risk Management Council's decisions within the Division
• Integrate disaster risk reduction and climate resilience into divisional, provincial and district development planning
• Manage the office's operations, including annual business plans, budgets, procurement plans and performance reports
• Coordinate multi-hazard early warning systems, including the MHEWS Roadmap and the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) initiative, and promote anticipatory action
• Coordinate community-based disaster risk management training, awareness campaigns and partnerships with government agencies, councils, NGOs and the private sector
• Support emergency preparedness, response and recovery, including the Divisional Emergency Operations Centre, damage and needs assessments and resource mobilization
• Monitor and evaluate DRM programmes, collect performance data and document lessons learned
• Deliver training and capacity building on disaster risk management, early warning and preparedness

Required profile

• Secondary education, or a bachelor's degree in disaster risk management, climate change or a related field
