National Coordinator, Small Grants Programme (SGP)

About the role

The National Coordinator will lead the implementation of the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (SGP) at the country level, based in the UNDP Fiji office. Reporting matrix‑wise to the Resident Representative (or Deputy Resident Representative) and the SGP Regional Programme Specialist, the incumbent will supervise the SGP Programme Associate/Assistant and coordinate the National Steering Committee.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and coach the SGP Country Programme Associate/Assistant, fostering effective teamwork with the National Steering Committee and UNDP country office.
• Develop and implement an annual work plan with clear delivery and co‑financing targets, and prepare the annual administrative and project budget proposal.
• Formulate, update and monitor the Country Programme Strategy, ensuring alignment with national environmental priorities and SGP strategic initiatives.
• Manage grant allocations and the country operating budget, ensuring compliance with SGP SOPs and UNOPS regulations.
• Oversee the development of project ideas, conduct quality control, and monitor implementation progress and results.
• Organise stakeholder workshops and project development sessions for civil society and community‑based organisations, providing guidance on SGP guidelines.
• Collaborate with CSOs and CBOs to prepare project concepts and proposals that fit SGP strategic priorities.
• Authorize planning grants, monitor ongoing projects through field visits, and provide technical and operational support to grantees.
