Pacific Development Manager (Maternity Cover)

About the role
We are seeking a Pacific Development Manager on a maternity‑cover basis to join BirdLife International’s Pacific team. The role will be based in either Fiji or Australia and will work closely with global Development and Partnership teams to drive fundraising, donor engagement and regional communications across the Pacific.
Key responsibilities
- Develop high‑quality funding proposals, concept notes and budgets for Pacific conservation programmes.
- Identify new funding opportunities and manage donor relationships from engagement through to reporting and stewardship.
- Maintain and strengthen the Pacific fundraising pipeline, tracking opportunities and supporting strategic growth.
- Oversee sub‑grants to partners, ensuring effective coordination, compliance and follow‑up.
- Produce donor communications such as reports, presentations and impact stories.
- Manage fundraising systems and support internal processes including procurement and donor compliance.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with BirdLife Partners across the Pacific, fostering collaboration and information sharing.
- Strengthen partner capacity in fundraising, reporting, communications and project delivery.
- Coordinate meetings, workshops and engagement activities that enhance the BirdLife Partnership in the region.
Required profile
- Proven experience securing institutional funding from donors such as MFAT, DFAT, the EU, USAID, trusts, foundations or corporate partners.
- Strong proposal development, budgeting and donor management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, high organisational ability and financial literacy.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across remote teams.
- Good understanding of conservation and development issues in the Pacific; knowledge of Asia is an advantage.
- Relevant university qualification is desirable.
Required skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
What we offer
- Fixed‑term contract for one year with the possibility of extension.
- Salary of AUD 100,000 (Australia) or FJD 75,000 (Fiji) with benefits varying by location.
