Programme Officer – Disaster Risk Reduction & Early Warning

About the role

The Programme Officer will lead the implementation of the Project for Enhancing Evacuation Centers and Early Warning Systems across Pacific Island Countries. Based in Suva, Fiji, the role provides technical and programme oversight of disaster risk reduction and preparedness activities in Fiji, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, working closely with IOM Country Offices.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and manage the evacuation centre and early warning systems project in the three target countries.
• Coordinate technical activities with IOM Country Offices, government agencies and development partners.
• Develop standards and guidelines for evacuation centre design and early warning system operation.
• Monitor project progress, prepare reports and ensure compliance with IOM policies and donor requirements.
• Prepare technical documentation, budgets and financial monitoring tools.
• Facilitate capacity‑building workshops and knowledge‑sharing events.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in disaster risk reduction, humanitarian affairs, environmental science or a related field.
• Proven experience in DRR or early warning programmes, preferably in the Pacific region.
• Strong analytical, reporting and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Ability to work in a multicultural, multi‑partner environment.
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
