Pacific Hub Director

About the role

Tonkin + Taylor, an Australasian engineering and environmental consultancy, is establishing a permanent presence in Fiji and is looking for its first Pacific Hub Director. Based in Suva, you will lead the next stage of the Pacific business, backed by a strong technical business and real autonomy, and act as the key link between Pacific operations and the Group's companies in New Zealand and Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development of the Fiji business and wider Pacific operations, building on existing relationships and project experience
• Grow the market by identifying, developing and converting opportunities in waste management, water and sanitation, environmental management, climate resilience, infrastructure and advisory services
• Represent T+T as the business leader in Fiji and the Pacific Islands, working with government ministries, state-owned enterprises, development finance institutions, donor agencies, contractors and community partners
• Connect Pacific operations with the Group's New Zealand and Australian companies, bringing the right expertise and resources to support clients and projects
• Build and lead a local team, recruiting, developing and retaining Fiji-based staff with a focus on local capability and career pathways
• Strengthen the systems and local operating arrangements of the Fiji office, which already exists
• Oversee project performance, manage commercial risk and ensure delivery meets T+T's standards and values

Required profile

• At least 10 years' experience in consulting, engineering, environmental management or professional services, with an understanding of growing a business in a Pacific or emerging-market context
• Proven leadership track record in a consulting or professional services environment
• Strong commercial and business development capability, able to build a pipeline and close work
• Established professional network in Fiji, including government, SOEs, DFIs, donors, industry bodies and civil society organisations
• Cultural intelligence and the ability to build long-term trust; familiarity with iTaukei cultural protocols and Fiji's multicultural environment is an advantage
• Entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable with ambiguity and focused on outcomes
• A relevant technical degree (engineering, environmental science or similar); a business qualification is advantageous
