National Human Rights Intern

About the role

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights is seeking a National Human Rights Intern for its Suva office. The internship runs from September to November 2026 and provides hands‑on experience in communications, research, and event support within the Pacific region.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with internal and external communications, including social media content, advocacy materials and strategic campaigns linked to international observance days.
• Support One UN messaging and improve coordination of communications among Pacific UN Country Teams.
• Conduct research on regional human‑rights issues and contribute to reports, briefing notes, country profiles and other analytical documents.
• Prepare regular updates and respond to information requests on human‑rights situations.
• Record minutes, organise conferences, workshops and consultations, and attend events on behalf of the Regional Office when required.
• Provide logistical and administrative support for office activities and perform other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a Master’s programme, final year of a Bachelor’s programme, or recent graduate with a degree in Law, Human Rights, Political Science, International Relations, Public Policy, Development Studies or related fields.
• Fluency in written and spoken English; knowledge of Fijian (iTaukei) and/or Fiji Hindi is desirable.
• Strong research, analytical, written and verbal communication abilities and the capacity to work both independently and within multicultural teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with digital communication platforms and social‑media tools.
